Tumwater Mountain Flight Park
The new launch at Tumwater mountain is just a few minutes walk from the parking area. The launch faces northeast, and works best in the morning into early afternoon. This is a private launch area and does require a current USHPA P3 (or higher) rating and registering with the Tumwater Mountain Flight Park through one of their representatives. A site orientation is also mandatory for all pilots. It is also highly recommended that pilots have SIV training and a satellite tracking device before flying at any mountain site.
Tumwater Launch South
The traditional launch site at Tumwater Mountain is located on the south end of Tumwater Mountain, and is approximately 25 minutes hike from the parking area. This launch is on Forest service land, and is unregulated. This launch site is narrow with a number of obstacles below. It is recommended that pilots have good launching and SIV skills, a satellite tracking device and a site orientation from someone with experience at this site before flying here.
Landing in the Leavenworth area can be tricky. There are a number of landing sites that seem like obvious choices, however, most of these are off limits due to private property concerns. The new designated landing zone is outlined in green in this photo. It is 14 acres and is bordered by Ski Hill Drive on the east and Ranger road on the north. This is a private landing area and does require a current USHPA P3 (or higher) rating and registering with the Tumwater Mountain Flight Park through one of their representatives. A site orientation is also mandatory for all pilots prior to any landings. There is no parking at the landing zone. It is common for pilots to meet at the park and ride in town or the church on Wheeler street (please respect Sundays and don't overcrowd the parking lot) that are both within reasonable walking distance. Contact Leavenworth Paragliding or speak with a local pilot for up to date information on available landing areas.
